HELP!!!

To all members:

F-MFish has an urgent need for new dispatchers. Dispatchers take calls from clients who need rides, call drivers to match availability with need and make driver assignments.

Dispatchers work from home, normally one week per month or less. Activity is not full time - our present dispatchers fit the assignments in with their normal routines.

If you can help with this important function, please let Sandy or Joan know ASAP. Training (minimal) will be furnished. If you know anyone who has an interest in helping our FISH group, but who does not wish to be a driver, this may fit their needs; please talk to them.

FAYETTEVILLE FAIR

On Saturday, September 18, your F-M-FISH group exhibited at the Fayetteville Fair in Beard Park in the village. It was a nice day, the Fair was well attended, and we met many of our members as well as lots of other folks who stopped by our booth to learn about FISH and our services.

We had a couple of visitors who showed an interest in becoming FISH volunteers. This, of course is one of our motives for participating in the Fair, and we trust that they will follow through and join us.

The photos show our booth and two of our "caretakers" Elaine LaFollette and the writer. The following people also participated in manning the booth: Bob Duncanson, who coordinated our participation, Mary Sommers, Sandy Henry and Joan Lugthart.

New Transportation Group

On Monday, September 20, 2010, Bob Duncanson and I met with representatives from Sacandaga, NY, headed by Mary Ann Evans. The luncheon meeting was hosted by the CRIS (Community Resources for Independent Seniors) group of Cazenovia, headed by Bonnie Slocum. Bob and I had previously met with the CRIS group to furnish them with information and suggestions when they were first getting started, and they felt that we might be helpful to the Sacandaga group.

The new group is primarily concentrating on transportation, but their function will not duplicate our F-M FISH group's operation, due to their geographic situation (they are primarily rural), but we shared with them how we operate and addressed some of their concerns, especially that of risk. (We learned that they do not have an RSVP group available to them).

The CRIS operation seemed to be more like what the new group will face, and the CRIS people contributed their information and advice.

As we always do, we offered our continuing help when and if needed.

Third Quarter Report

To all FISH members:

At the end of June we have completed three quarters of our 2009-10 fiscal year.

Some of the significant statistics for this period are:

Number of trips made: 435 compared to 403 for the same period last year, an increase of 8%
Number of clients enrolled: 112 an increase of 11% over last year's 101.
Number of drivers: 91, compared to 84 last year, an increase of 8%

We are often asked which are our busiest days, so we have kept a record of this for the first nine months of this year,

The results were: Monday - 2.67 rides per day, Tuesday - 2.79, Wednesday - 3.18
Thursday - 2.74, Friday - 2.26

So, the "winner" is Wednesday, and the "loser" is Friday, but not by much.

Fayetteville Fair

On September 26, our F.I.S.H. Chapter was represented at the annual Fayetteville Fair. The Fair was well attended, and we had the opportunity to speak with many local people and explain the services which you, our volunteers, render to our community. We received many compliments from those who are familiar with our services and best of all, we had four new volunteer drivers who wish to join us!! Thanks to those who helped man our booth despite the wind and its efforts to take away all our handouts!

Both included driving for FISH in their many volunteer activities in service to our community. Jack was active until very recently, despite his illnesses. Kay had retired earlier after many years of service. Our thoughts and sympathies are with their families.

Time passes rapidly - we have now completed half of our 2008-9 year!

To update a couple of our important statistics: we now have exactly 100 people on our client list, a gain of 15 (+18%) over where we were at the beginning of the year. Our number of drivers remains the same at 84. We have been fortunate in gaining enough new drivers to offset our losses.

We obviously need to encourage others to join our ranks as drivers and dispatchers. Great thanks are due to all of you and the good work you do for our community.

Statistics for 3rd FISH quarter-2007-8

In the third quarter we booked 170 rides for our clients. This
compares to 156 during the previous quarter, and is up 10% from last
year, on an annualized basis. Just 56 of our 83 drivers handled these
rides, since many of our drivers are not available, due to illness,
vacations, and family commitments.

As you can see, demands for our services is growing. We need more
drivers. On our monthly News Letter for July shows 32% of the days
not taken by scheduled drivers. We certainly need these blanks to be
filled. If you can help, please let the appropriate dispatcher know
which days you can be available.

We have some new and interesting information about the service we provide:

> We believe that there are 450 people in our area who need our services.
> Those people need 3,600 rides per year.
> We have 82 clients.
> Last year we provided 620 rides.

As you can see, we are serving less than 20% of the actual needs for our services!

If we had more drivers and dispatchers, we could help more people. So - if you have any ideas of how we can increase these resources, please let us know. Call Joan or Sandy, or send us an e-mail. The phone numbers and e-mail addresses are on the Newsletter.

Lent?? Do you enjoy talking to people while enjoying the warmth of
your home and being able to do your daily chores or read a good book?
We have the perfect solution for you!! F.I.S.H. dispatchers get to
talk to our wonderful clients who never fail to thank us for our
great service. They also get to talk to our super drivers who are
willing to drive the clients. Dispatching is a great way to "meet"
lots os people while enjoying the warmth of your home and, in summer,
while sitting in your flower-bedecked yards or enjoying the cool of
your air conditioner. Of course, dispatching is just like driving -
it can be done as often as you wish or not so frequently. If

As we go into 2008, we at FISH take this opportunity to wish all of our clients and members a
very happy New Year.

We go into the new year with 88 members (Officers, Drivers and Dispatchers) and a like number of clients.

Our need for new drivers continues. One may think that we have a large number of drivers, but many of them have limitations on days and times they may serve, areas in which they may drive, and some are away in winter or summer months.

We are most happy to have new drivers - no matter how limited their availability may be. Please let us know of anyone who may be interested.

Fayetteville Fair

Thanks to all who helped at the second annual Fayetteville Fair on
Saturday, Sept. 15.

Despite the wind and the showers, the attendance was good and our
booth had a good number of visitors.

Following our policy of assisting new chapters to get started, Ken Henry and Walt Pasternak
visited Jordan, NY on September 14.

Meeting at J-E Community Center, we heard of their desire to have a
functioning FISH group to serve these two communities, and told them about our method of operation.

We promised any further assistance we might render as they proceed with their plans.

On Saturday, September 15th, the second annual "Fayetteville First" will be held at Beard Park in the village.(Rain date the 16th)

At the end of the third quarter, we have a total of 139 clients This is an increase of 2 since the last report.

We booked 174 rides for this quarter compared to 149 in the previous quarter. We had no clients who averaged more than one ride per week this quarter.

In this quarter, 57 drivers actually made trips while 20 were inactive.

As you can see from these above figures, our drivers who actually drove averaged one drive per month. No driver drove more than 2 times per month.

NEW CHAPTER OF FISH

The F-M FISH organization has, as a matter of policy, always been willing to assist other groups to set up FISH chapters in areas we do not cover.

The latest of these groups is in Cicero. We have had several phone contacts with them and today, June 13, Walt Pasternak and Ken Henry visited them at Sacred Heart Church in Cicero to discuss the possibilities with them and to answer questions for them which we hope will lead to the formation of their chapter.

At the meeting today, Sandy Poplawski, who is leading their program had arranged for attendance from several members of the clergy and others to attand. (From Sacred Heart, to Lutheran Churches and two Methodist Churches, as well as several others).

We believe the meeting was productive and will continue to work with them as long as they may need.

SECOND QUARTER REPORT – 2007

At the end of the second quarter of our year - 2006-7, we have a total of 132 clients.

We booked 149 rides during this quarter, compared to 135 in the previous quarter.

We had only one client who averaged more than one ride per week

In this quarter, 51 drivers actually made trips, with 26 being inactive.
We had no “double-digit” drivers in this quarter.

Annual Meeting - 2006

The 2005-6 annual meeting was held on October 23, 2006 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville.

Highlights of the meeting are as follows:

Reimbursement for mileage was left at the current $.35 per mile. Membershi in R.S.V.P. as an additional source for insurance coverage was recommended for all volunteer drivers.
We continue to need and solicit more volunteer drivers.

HOW WE WORK

Our clients call the FISH number - 637-8158 - at least three days to one wek prior to thr appointment to request a ride.

Our phone is on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Our dispatcher takes the information and arranges a ride with one oof our volunteer drivers. The driver then calls the client to set a time for pick-up.

We have a General Release form which we ask the client to sign one time. This waiver releases our drivers of liability in connection with the transportation.

There is no charge for our services. We do accept donations - clients shuld request an envelope for that purpose.
